Stencil Nation Book Launch, Workshop, Slideshow
Without a doubt, stencils are the fastest, easiest, and cheapest
method for painting an image on a wall, a sidewalk, or almost any
object anywhere. Stencil Nation focuses on the unexpected mix of this
lively, accessible, meduium to reveal engaging aspects of an
intentionally secretive international creative community. With
dynamically illustrated perspectives from diverse niches of the art
form, hundreds of photograph and numerous essays have been curated by
StencilArchives. org?s founder, Russell Howze. Stencil Nation builds
upon previous published works to give the most extensive and
up-to-date history of stencil art, as well as how-to tips from the
artists.
Bike Shorts - an evening of bike inspired cinema
This year’s program will have more local content and a varied program featuring something for all
tastes. Anderson is a recumbent fan, so figure on him fitting a movie about ‘bent culture in there
somewhere. “There are so many great films being made about bikes and cycling right now,” Anderson says. “Cutting the content down to a reasonable screening time is going to be hard.”
How hard? See for yourself on June 26, 2008, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at the Ridge Theatre at
Arbutus and 16th Ave in Vancouver, BC. This event has always sold out in the past, so be sure to pick up tickets beforehand at a variety of local cycling outlets.
Free, secure bike parking will be available and everyone is encouraged to ride to the show.
Taiwanese Film Festival II
Following the First Taiwanese Film Festival (TWFF)’s incredible success last year, the Second Taiwanese Film Festival “TWFF II” will be held in Vancouver once again starting from June 20th to 22nd for a duration of three days at the Vancouver International Film Centre.
Last year in April, the First Taiwanese Film Festival presented by UBC Literature Etc. came to a successful end in thundering applauses and amazing amount of positive feedbacks. All 10 screenings were sold out, winning the recognition and support from various communities. Furthermore, the festival offered people who had never seen Taiwanese films a chance to taste the refined art of Taiwanese films and a feel of Taiwan’s unique local communities and culture.
